We have been especially involved in supporting the special baby care unit at Victoria Provincial Hospital in Mutare. The help for the unit has involved obtaining donations for mothers with newborn babies- the spacial baby kits with soap, rompers, nappies and so forth. They arrive often with nothing! Then sadly there are mothers who pass away in Child birth. the fathers are often absent and there is a desperate need for baby milk powder for the first four months and then ideally up to one year until the baby is on solid foods. The cost of this up to $55 each month is a huge burden on many grandparents in the rural areas. Then they also face the cost of travelling some distance each month to collect the milk formula from our local representative.
Sadly resources are stretched but with the help of small corporate donations locally and private individuals we have managed to repaint , and retile the Special Baby Care Unit we also found a donations of new blankets and new curtains providing a more welcoming space.
